Gujarat: Taj Skyline installs bomb-proof glass

Ahmedabad : No one can forget the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The Taj Hotel was badly damaged and suffered heavy casualties. Just a few days ago, Tata Group’s The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) teamed up with Sankalp Inn in Ahmedabad to build the largest five star hotel in Gujarat. A lot of security precautions have been taken in this hotel.

Avik Sengupta, General Manager, Taj Skyline, said, “We have taken a lot of security measures and the most important aspect is that the hotel glass is bomb proof, meaning that the glass cannot be broken even by installing an RDX.”

26/11 terror attacks taught a lot
“The 26/11 incident has taught us a lot,” said Avik Sengupta, who has been associated with the Taj Hotel for almost 20 years. The Taj Hotel has also undergone all sorts of security changes from entry point. No compromises have been made on security issues at the Taj. Strict checking of luggage and vehicles is done. CCTV surveillance has also been enhanced. Fire safety has also been enhanced.

Special arrangements for vegetarians
Avik Sengupta said that vegetarian food is most preferred in Gujarat. With this in mind we have created a separate kitchen and dining area for vegetarians, where only veg food will be served. Usually five star hotels or big hotels have separate kitchens for very few places for veg and non-veg meals. The dining area is common, where non-veg food is served along with vegetarian food. This causes a lot of problems for many people.

Shamiana restaurant showcases the history of Ahmedabad
An art piece of crystal has been made at the entrance of the hotel, which makes it look as if a young woman wearing a chaniya-choli is playing garba and her dupatta is flying in the air. Inside, the hotel’s signature restaurant, Shamiana, has more than a century-old photos of Ahmedabad city’s heritage locations. Avik Sengupta said that Ahmedabad is known for its textiles. We have applied the block print design used in textiles in hotel rooms and lobbies.

Covid guidelines are strictly followed
At the time of entering the hotel, hands are sanitized and the temperature of the visitors is also checked. Also, all the people who come must have the Arogya Setu app on their mobile. In addition, in the restaurant and common lobby area, furniture including tables, chairs and door handles are periodically cleaned with chemicals. Masks are mandatory for all staff. In addition, there are no pre-arranged glasses or plates for drinking water on the table in the restaurant. The menu at the hotel has also been digitized to provide as much touch-less service as possible.

Ahmedabad is an important market for the company
Puneet Chatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Indian Hotels Company Limited, said that with the Taj Skyline, IHCL has entered Ahmedabad, an important industrial and economic hub of India. This reinforces our goal of being present in all significant business locations across the country. In this regard, Ahmedabad is an important market for us.

Sankalp’s Rs. 300 crore investment
Earlier on the project, Kailash Goenka, Director, Sankalp Inn, said that Ahmedabad is the economic powerhouse of Gujarat and one of the largest industrial cities in the country. We are proud to be associated with Indian Hotels. The hotel project is estimated to cost around Rs 300 crore.
