Gujarat civic election : Attempt to capture booth in Dahod, EVM broken, Re-poll on Monday

Ahmedabad : During the local body elections in Gujarat, the reports of violence in some areas of Gujarat during election of local bodies have come to light. Unknown people attempted to capture Dahod’s polling booth. EVMs were broken. A heavy police force is present on the spot after the incident.

The SP of the district also reached the voting center. At the same time, during the local body elections, there was a fight between BJP and Independent candidates in Viramgam. Meanwhile, the police had to lathicharge.

Here, the Election Commission has decided to hold elections again in case of capturing booths in Dahod and breaking EVMs. Voting will be held on Monday amid tight security arrangements.

Three people tried to capture the booth this afternoon at the voting center in Dhodiya of Jhalod tehsil. The accused forcibly entered the voting center and broke the EVM machine kept there. After which the atmosphere there worsened. On receipt of information about the incident, heavy police reached the spot. Several officials including SP reached the spot and took stock of the situation. Voting was discontinued after the EVM breaking incident.

During the local body elections, there was a fight between BJP and Independent candidates in Viramgam. During this, stone pelting started near the voting center. Later, the police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation.

Voting was held for 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats in Gujarat on Sunday. Their votes will be counted on March 2.
