Gujarat Citizens Started Stocking-Up Hydroxychloroquine Drug, Govt. Issues Warning

Ahmedabad :In Gujarat, people have started to store hydroxychloroquine, which is considered important in preventing coronavirus infection.  In view of this, the government had to issue warnings against the health side effects of the drug and issued instructions to the chemists not to sell it without consulting the doctor. India is the largest producer of hydroxychloroquine in the world used for the treatment of malaria, but its demand has increased after US President Donald Trump requested the Indian government to export this drug for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. .

Gujarat Food and Drug Control Authority Commissioner HG Koshia said, “We have come to know that people have started to buy it since the news about hydroxychloroquine and after US President Donald Trump described it as an effective drug in the treatment of COVID-19.”

He said that it has been learned that many people are taking the medicine or are storing it due to the fear of coronavirus. Koshia said, “This is a prescribed H drug that the chemist can sell only after being consulted by a registered physician. If people do not have symptoms of COVID-19 then taking prescribed H medicine is not good for normal people.”

He cautioned that taking the medicine without consulting a doctor causes harm and its side effects can be seen. The official said, “So we advise people not to take medicine without medical consultation. We have asked chemists not to sell medicines to patients who are coming without medical prescription.”
