Gangubai Kathiawadi : Sanjay Leela Bhansali impressed with Ajay Devgan’s work

Mumbai : The shooting of the gangster drama Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt was about to end when the corona epidemic once again stalled the shooting. The shooting of the film was stopped after Sanjay Leela Bhansali and then Alia Bhatt were corona positive. And for this reason Ajay Devgn’s one day shoot was also incomplete. But now Sanjay Leela Bhansali has completed that remaining shoot with Ajay Devgan. Ajay Devgan will be seen in a Guest Appearance in Gangubai Kathiyawadi. He will play real life mafia don Karim Lala in this film.

A source close to Filmcity said, “Bhansali and Ajay last worked together in the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999. Since then, both of them tried hard to work together but it was not possible. And now after so many years Ajay and Bhansali got a chance to work together in Gangubai.” The source further said that Bhansali was so impressed with Ajay’s presence that he decided to increase Ajay’s role in the film as well. Ajay’s role is definitely small in the film but very powerful.

Ajay’s is playing a character of a gangster in the film who considers Gangubai as his sister. The source said, “Ajay’s character Karim Lala’s entry in the film happens when Gangubai is in trouble. Karim Lala has played a major role in making Gangubai the head of a Mumbai brothel. Karim Lala helps Gangubai when no one is with her and she falls alone. Ajay has a very strong role in the film and without Ajay’s presence, the film would have been incomplete. That’s why Ajay was chosen for this film because no one else could do this character better than him.”

In 2015, Bhansali wanted to make Bajirao Mastani with Ajay but it could not happen. Sanjay Leela Bhansali first offered Bajirao Mastani to Ajay but he refused to do the film because he was busy with Tanhaji. It is being said that even though Ajay’s role in Gangubai is small, Bhansali will soon make a film with the actor in which Ajay will be seen in the lead role.
