Gangadham – Kondhwa Road Hilltop Hill Slope Zone | Fire at godowns on Gangadham to Katraj Kondhwa Road: PMC to take action against illegal godowns

PUNE : Gangadham – Kondhwa Road Hilltop Hill Slope Zone | The Pune Municipal Corporation is going to take strict action soon against godowns located on the roadside of Gangadham to Katraj Kondhwa Road. Many businessmen have secured stay orders from the courts after they received notices from the PMC regarding illegal constructions on hilltop and hillslope. However, against the background of the fire incident on Sunday, the civic administration is going to approach the courts to seek a lifting of the stay orders, said City Engineer Prashant Waghmare.

Many godowns have been built on the Gangadham to Katraj Kondhwa Road near Bibvewadi and Kondhwa area. Since the area is marked as hilltop and hillslope in the Development Plan, three times tax has been levied on the godowns. The building construction department has demolished some godowns after issuing notices. However, some businessmen have secured stay orders from the courts. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in some godowns on Sunday morning.

Twenty godowns were destroyed by the fire. Because of the narrow roads, the fire tenders found it difficult to approach the godowns. Despite this, more than 100 jawans brought the fire under control after four hours with the help of 22 fire tenders. Since the incident happened during the day, it was possible to control the blaze. If this incident had taken place in the night, the nearby settlements would have also been affected.

When contacted, City Engineer Prashant Waghmare said from time to time, action had been taken against the illegal godowns but owners of godowns have approached the courts and secured a stay on any civic action. We will present these cases of stay orders in the courts and once the stay is lifted, strict action will be taken.
