Former Minister and BJP Leader Dilip Gandhi passes away at 70

Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Gandhi passed away at a private hospital in Delhi on Wednesday morning. He was 70.

Gandhi had recently tested positive for the virus, following which he was admitted to a hospital on Tuesday and was put on a ventilator.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. Reports inform that Gandhi’s body will be cremated in Delhi.

Gandhi began his political career by holding key positions in the district organisation of BJP such as General Secretary, Joint Secretary and President. He was elected to the Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation as a Councilor and later he became the Leader of the BJP in the Municipal Council.

Dilip Gandhi was three-time MP from Ahmednagar constituency. He was also the former Union MoS for Shipping.

Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu took to Twitter to express his grief. “Very sad to know about unfortunate passing away of my dear friend,former colleague in #LokSabha shri Dilip Gandhi ,who was always active, represented the people of #Ahmadnagar in #Maharashtra very ably.We will always miss him Condolences to his family @BJP4Maharashtra. Om Shanti,” Prabhu tweeted.
