Fire at Manjari plant will affect the production of BCG, Rota vaccine : Serum Institute

Pune : The fire at the Serum Institute’s Pune plant will affect the production of BCG and Rota vaccine. Serum officials said on Friday, the building under construction of Manjari plant has suffered a lot due to fire.

This may affect the production of BCG and Rota vaccines in the future. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Labor Minister Dilip Walse Patil visited the Serum Institute on Friday and met Chairman and Managing Director Adar Poonawala.

Earlier, the forensic team had visited the scene and collected samples for investigation. The serum plant was set on fire on Thursday, killing five people. The fire in the SEZ-3 area in the premises of the largest vaccine-making company has damaged the top two floors of the building.

Three investigating agencies of the Maharashtra government are investigating the incident. The Pune Metropolitan Municipality is part of the joint investigation team headed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.

Zone-5 Deputy Commissioner of Police Namrata Patil said, Hadapsar police station has registered a case of death due to accident and burning. We are investigating the cause of the fire and how the fire spread. He said that many types of equipment have also been damaged in the fire.

UN Secretary General expressed grief
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed grief over the fire incident at the Serum Institute. “We are saddened by the deaths in the incident and express our condolences to the families of the victims,” Guterres spokesman Stephen Dujarric said. We hope that there will be a thorough investigation into the case of fire.
