Engineering student beaten and ragged for greeting seniors as Bhai

PUNE: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – An engineering students of Pune based college was allegedly warned, threaten and brutally attacked by senior in college hostel after they refuse to bow down and greet them as Bhai.

This shocking incident has taken place in Sinhagad Engineering College. Based on which the First Information Report (FIR) has been registered with Kondhwa police station which falls under the jurisdiction of Pune city Commissionerate.

In this regard, the complaint has been registered by a 19-year-old engineering student.

The Kondhwa police have registered the case against Sudharshan Baliram Pansare, Ayush Ajay Bhadane, Abhijeet Rajput, Raman V Zirmire, Prathamesh Salunke, Manik Dhakode, Piyush M Dongre, and Pratik Ghembad. All resident of Sinhagad Academy and Engineering College Hostel.

All are booked under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code 452 (House trespass), 341 (wrongful restrain), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), rioting (143), an act done by them with common intention (34). They are also booked under Maharashtra Provision of Ragging act.

According to police, “the incident has took place in Yewalewadi based Sinhagad engineering college in the hostel. The complainant was in his hostel room in fast sleep, the above named youth banged his door and entered the room forcefully.  Later the eight youth dragged inside an isolated room and started beating him. They claimed that his other friend was asked by the gang to bow down and greet Namaskar and called them as Bhai.”

He added, “Complainant had suggested his friend to raise voice against such ragging and approach the principal and rector. Later the gang smashed his head across the mirror and started beatening and assaulting him repeated.” Such incident took place on October 13 that is on Saturday around 1.30 am.”

Senior police inspector Milind Gaikwad of Kondhwa police station said, “Post incident, Complainant was warned and threaten not to reveal things to anyone or will be killed. Complainant narrated the incident with the principal and rector. Later college approach us. We have registered the case and probing.”

Police sub-inspector V V Wadkar visited the offence incident while the further investigation will be carried by Police Sub-inspector S S Kale.
