Maharashtra’s dearest god is just three days away from its arrival, and people are super excited to welcome the Modak Chor (Lord Ganesh). People are ready to celebrate the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi festival this Thursday.  And, Ganapati festival is turning out to be an economic booster.

Lord Ganesha is worshipped by everyone to seek blessings on this festival. People are very enthusiastic about it, and as Bappa is welcomed, he also brings his devotees economic benefits. The traders get full benefits by selling their products at large scale during this occasion.

Everyone celebrates this festival and welcomes Ganesh Idols at their homes, purchases goods required for this festival. Every family spends at least two to three thousand rupees at this festival for various decoration purposes.

Vishnu Vichare from Navi Peth, who sells homemade sweets said, “Every festival brings opportunity to grow small scale business like us. Our business mostly depends on such seasons like this festival. We have to follow a large demand and keep our supply according to that. These ten days are very important for us, as we get huge benefits which we don’t get in entire month.  My whole family including my 6-year old daughter helps following demands of customers.”

Anand Saraf a Ganesh Festival expert and a researcher from last 45 years told NP NEWS 24 that, “There are 4700 registered Ganesh Mandals in Pune city, and unregistered number is also similar. Almost every Ganesh Mandal spends around 1 to 1.5 lakhs per year on this festival. This festival changes the social economic scenario; it helps small entrepreneurs to grow their business.

Adding to that he said, “It also gives benefits to our farmers as our economy which is agricultural based. With the all economic benefits it also helps to build the social integration and unity, which is very important these days, as there are so many clashes and prejudices about caste nowadays.”

This festival is deeply rooted within the market economy, which affects almost all trades from agricultural products to other small-scale businesses. This festival promotes the art, talent and skills of local communities as it provides a platform to them. Thousands of shopkeepers, who have small shops on streets, find new opportunities during festive season. This festival boosts social economy people exchange the gifts, sweets and fruits etc, which directly make benefits to Producer, Entrepreneur and Consumer.

According to the survey report, 2015 by Delhi  based agency, on studying the nation’s’ economy about this year’s Ganesh festival, they said that there is a turnover of about 20  thousands crore rupees every year and it grows by 20-30 percent every year. There is possibility of this turnover reaching up to 40 thousands crore rupees by this year.
