Earthquake search and rescue field exercise held at NDRF HQ, Sudumbre

Pune : NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- Today Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority, Gujarat SDMA, Pune district administration, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Police, Geological Survey of India (GSI), teams of SDRF Maharashtra & Gujarat and NDRF teams from Gujarat & Pune came together at the 5th Battalion HQ, NDRF, Sudumbare, about 40 km from Pune in Maval taluka, and carried out field exercise of the first ever interstate mock exercise on the theme of ‘earthquake search and rescue’.

During this exercise iron towers were used to create scenario of a residential building collapse. The exercise was conducted based on an imaginary earthquake measuring 6.8 of richter scale in Koyna Dam area which causes wide spread building collapses in Satara and Pune districts.

The field exercise was conducted to actually practice how various government agencies can come together to deal with these kind of building collapses. This exercise helped various agencies to check their preparedness and it will help them to strengthen their response mechanism based on the experience gathered during this exercise.

This exercise also helped in formulating modalities for use of resources coming from neighboring states during disasters.

This exercise was successful in achieving its objectives as per participating Government agencies.
