DRI seizes 3 kg gold at Aurangabad airport

Aurangabad/Pune :NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- On the basis of specific intelligence, the officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Pune Regional Unit in coordination with officers of Aurangabad Customs intercepted two passengers by name Mr Shaikh Faiyum and Mr Shaikh Javed Ismail travelling by flight no Al-441 from Delhi to Aurangabad on November 13 and recovered 12 pieces of foreign mark gold weighing 3 kgs from the possession of the passengers.

In their statement recorded under section 108 of the Customs Act the passenger admitted that the said gold was smuggled in the International flight of Air India from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai and was concealed in the hollow cylindrical pipe beneath the seat. They recovered the gold during the domestic flight of Air India from Delhi to Aurangabad and concealed it in the hand baggage. In their statements recorded u/s 108 of the Customs Act, 1962, both the passengers admitted possession, carriage and concealment of the Gold.

Accordingly, both the said accused were arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962 and were released on bail.

Further investigation is in progress.
