DRDO completes key process for mass production of Pinaka Rockets Systems

New Delhi: Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) completed the key process in the manufacture of Pinaka rockets, launchers DGQA and related equipment on Friday, as per the officials. Officials said, “DRDO submitted all the information related to mass production of Pinaka rocket system to Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA)”. DGQA is responsible for ensuring quality specifications and standards for all defense equipment.

The DRDO on Friday handed over to the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) all relevant details for mass production of the Pinaka rocket system. An important milestone was achieved today when Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP) responsibility of Pinaka weapon system was handed over by DRDO to DGQA,” the defence ministry said in a statement

The Pinaka is a free flight artillery rocket system, which has a range of 37.5 km. Pinak rockets are launched from the multi-barrel rocket launcher. The launcher can fire 12 rockets in just 44 seconds.

Recently, the DRDO has successfully conducted a test-fired laser guided tank destroyer missile developed in the country from the firing range at Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. The officials pointed out, the missile can hit a distance of four kilometers. As part of the experimental test, the missile was fired from an MBT Arjun tank at KK range located at Armed Corps Center and School in Ahmednagar on Tuesday.

Officials said that the laser-guided tank destroyer missile (ATGM) is expected to significantly increase the Indian Army’s combat power, especially along the borders with Pakistan and China. “ATGM targets with absolute accuracy. The Arjun tank is the third generation main battle tank developed by DRDO”, further added.

The Pune-based Ordnance Research and Development Establishment has developed the missile in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and Equipment Research and Development Establishment.
