Delhi: AAP govt to give free COVID vaccine to city residents

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday announced free Covid-19 vaccine for citizens of Delhi in the government hospitals. While presenting the Delhi Budget 2021-22 in the state assembly, Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio in the Aam Aadmi Party government in the national capital, allocated Rs 50 crore for free vaccination drive in Delhi govt hospitals.

“COVID-19 vaccines will be available free of cost for people of Delhi in government hospitals in the UT, we have allotted Rs 50 crores budget for the same,” Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said. he added that soon, vaccination will be increased from 45,000 to 60,000 per day.

The Delhi government presented a Rs 69,000-crore budget themed on ‘patriotism’ for the financial year 2021-22 on Tuesday.

“A person can go to a private hospital, pay Rs 250 and get a vaccine shot. But many have to think if they should spend on ration or get vaccines for their families. In the 75th year of independence, this question should not arise in the minds of citizens. So, we decided that vaccines at our hospitals will continue to be given for free. An outlay of Rs 50 crore has been made under ‘Aam Aadmi Nishulk COVID Vaccine Yojana,” he said.

“Also, learning from our COVID-19 management, Rs 1,293 crore has been set aside for expansion of healthcare services, including opening new hospitals, renovating old ones and augmenting beds,” he added.

Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP govt will start ‘Women Mohalla Clinics’ next year. These clinics will give health services specifically to women.
