20 military personnel including a colonel of the Indian Army were killed in a violent clash with Chinese soldiers on Monday night in Galwan valley of eastern Ladakh. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the violent clash between Indian and Chinese forces in eastern Ladakh was caused by “the Chinese side’s efforts to unilaterally change the status quo” in the area.

The Foreign Ministry said that if the Chinese side had followed it seriously at the top level in the past, then the damage to both sides could have been avoided. There is a standoff between the Indian and Chinese forces in Pangong Tso, Galwan Valley, Demchok and Daulat Beg Oldi areas of eastern Ladakh.

The border has been encroached by Chinese military personnel in several areas, including Pangong Tso. The Indian Army has strongly objected to the Chinese army’s action and demanded immediate retreat for peace and tranquility in the area. In order to remove the deadlock, talks have been held several times on both sides in the last few days.
