Dabholkar’s shooter in police custody till August 26

A special court today remanded Sachin Prakash Andure to police custody till August 26 in connection with murder of rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar. Five years after the murder, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him on Saturday evening after getting tip-off from state anti-terrorism squad (ATS).

The anti-superstition crusader Dr Dabholkar was shot dead on August 20, 2013, by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men around 7.20 am at Omkareshwar Bridge. Two years back, in this case, CBI had arrested Dr Virendra Tawade of Sanatan Sanstha and has filed a chargesheet against him.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Aurangabad based Sachin Andhure in this case. He is the resident of Roza Bazar in Aurangabad. Sachin was detained on August 14 by the investigation agencies. His parents are no more while he stayed along with his elder brother, wife and two children in the area.

CBI sources says, Dr Virendra is the main conspirator and since 2009 the plot of killing Dabholkar was going on.

When contacted Dr. Hamid Dabholkar, son of late Narendra Dabholkar, said, “It’s a very important move and it’s a ray of hope that such case needs to be pursued till the root of the case. We want the real mastermind to be arrested.”
