Cyclone Amphan : 2 People Killed in West Bengal, Tree Falls on 13yo Girl in Howrah

New Delhi : Two people have died and 5227 houses have been damaged in West Bengal so far due to Super Storm Amphan. A 13-year-old girl has died in Howrah as a tree fell on her, while a woman has died in North 24 Parganas.

Amphan will Reach Kolkata by 7 pm, Winds will Blow at 120 kmph
Indian Meteorological Department Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that the cyclone Amphan is currently passing over the Sundarbans near the coast of West Bengal and it will reach near Kolkata by 7 pm. He told that the cyclone has started hitting the ground. Mohapatra told that winds are blowing in the coastal districts of West Bengal at a speed of 160 km per hour.

He said that the front part (arm) of the cyclone has hit the ground and its central part (I) can now hit the ground surface anytime. The cyclone first hit 2:30 in the afternoon. He said that it would take about 3-4 hours for the cyclone to completely collide.

The Situation Related to Cyclone Amphan is Changing Rapidly : NDRF
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General SN Pradhan said on Wednesday that the situation related to Cyclone Amphan is changing rapidly and it is being closely monitored. The cyclone has started hitting the coast. Pradhan said that all the 20 teams present in Odisha have been deployed, while in West Bengal 19 teams have been deployed and two have been kept in reserve.

He said that the situation was changing rapidly. We will have more responsibility now and after the cyclone. It is a long haul. Pradhan said that the NDRF is closely monitoring the Amphan cyclone. He said that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, one has to be more vigilant at the time of this disaster. Pradhan said that the districts which are facing more pressure, there are more deployments.

The storm has hit the coast of Odisha and the entire nation is eyeing this devastating storm. Addressing a joint press conference of NDRF, Ministry of Home Affairs, IMD, ICMR, Ministry of Health on Amphan Hurricane, SN Pradhan, Director General of NDRF said that the storm has started hitting the coast of Odisha. Our work will begin after the storm passes. He told that we have our eye on the storm. NDRF DG SN Pradhan said that as per the data received from the state governments, 5 lakh people in West Bengal and 1.58 lakh people in Odisha have been evacuated from the coastal areas to safer places to protect themselves from the storm.

The head of the Indian Meteorological Department said that storm storm is entering West Bengal near Sunderbans. According to estimates, the storm is moving at its own pace. Odisha and West Bengal are receiving heavy rains due to the storm. Many trees are broken and electric poles are uprooted here. The NDRF team is continuously engaged in rescue and relief work. The IMD chief said that the storm is expected to reach Kolkata by evening. Howrah and Hubli are having heavy rain with strong winds.

 

 

 

 

The speed of the storm in Kolkata will be 110 km per hour. North 24 Parganas is currently having wind blowing at a speed of 150 kmph. Kolkata, Howrah is estimated to have the maximum loss. The biggest damage is expected on the northern coast of Odisha. The Meteorological Department said that Cyclone Amphan knocked off between Digha in West Bengal and Hatia Island in Bangladesh around 2.30 pm on Wednesday. In the next four hours with strong rains and stormy winds, the cyclone will achieve a more severe form. According to the Meteorological Department, at the time of the arrival of the cyclone, it had a speed of 160-170 km / h. Its speed is expected to reach 190 km per hour.
