Coronavirus India: AYUSH Ministry releases new protocols for recovered patients

New Delhi: Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik on Tuesday released a new protocol for AYUSH medicines in reference to the spread of coronavirus. The new protocol also enlists the names of specific drugs that benefited the coronavirus patients. Among this, the AYUSH-64 is said to be most effective for the coronavirus. The new guidelines for post-COVID-19 protocols have been released, who have recovered from corona.

AYUSH experts say that all the patients of coronavirus are being admitted to allopathy hospitals. Thus allopathy doctors are avoiding prescribing AYUSH medicines to patients. Even after protocol doctors are not practicing the right medicine. Experts say that some changes need to be made in the rules so that all patients get their benefits.

According to a protocol issued by the Ministry of AYUSH, people living in areas sensitive to corona infection should use 1-3 grams of ashwagandha powder or 500 mg extract daily to avoid infection. Apart from this, 10 grams of Chyawanprash should be used daily with warm water or milk. It has also been suggested to provide a drug named AYUSH-64 for asymptomatic patients.

The Ministry of AYUSH has said that for patients with moderate or mild category having symptoms like mild fever, sore throat, thin diarrhea or cough, the Guduchi, Peepli extracts should be given twice. Apart from this, two capsules of 500 mg of AYUSH-64 medicine should be given for 15 days.

The patients are asked to regularly do yoga. Duration is suggested to be 45 minutes, 30 minutes session as well as 15 minutes separate session in the evening. These yoga postures include various asanas, kapalabhati, pranayama, breathing and other postures. It should be used only under the supervision of a trained yoga teacher.

Dr. Pradeep Aggarwal, chairman of the Examining Body for Paramedical Training for Indian Medicine, Delhi, said that the measures given by the Ministry of AYUSH are very effective and patients are getting good benefits by implementing them. But the biggest drawback is that corona patients are being admitted to allopathy hospitals where Ayurvedic or AYUSH medicines are not used.

Further he added, “in order to get maximum benefit of these patients, allopathy doctors should also be suggested to use them, or it should be mandatory to have at least one Ayurveda-AYUSH doctor in all allopathy hospitals. To meet the shortage of AYUSH doctors, doctors getting higher education in AYUSH can also be engaged in hospitals”.

The AYUSH also suggests adding one or two drops of oil, ghee or coconut oil to the nose while going out of the house also helps in preventing infection. Breathing in the mint, celery or eucalyptus oil also helps prevent infection. Along with this, eight hours of sleep per day and moderate level of exercise are also very beneficial for health. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, drinking golden milk (turmeric milk) once a day is also helpful to prevent infection. People
