Confusion galore as names of many deceased voters found in voters’ list

Pune : NpNews24 Online  –  Pune Kasba Peth Bypoll Election | The lack of interest of voters in Kasba Peth can be understood by the fact that only eight per cent polling was recorded in the first four hours of polling. It is being said that the Election Commission is responsible for this. It is shocking that despite claims of voters’ lists being updated, the names of many dead voters have been found in the list. According to the available information, in the updated list, names of many deceased voters have been found. The names of some voters, who are alive, have disappeared from the list. Voters are visiting two-three voting centres to find out if their names are there in the list. However, the citizens are being forced to return home disappointed after failing to find their names.

Suvarna Kulkarni shared her experience with journalists. “Since last four elections, I used to vote at the girls’ high school located on Kelkar Road. However, when I went to vote today morning, I found that mu name was missing from the voters’ list. I visited two-three voting centres, but since my name was found in the lists, I was not able to vote,” a disappointed Suvarna Kulkarni said.

Today, voting is being held for the bypoll of Kasba Peth constituency. There are 2.75 lakh voters in the constituency. The contest here is primarily between BJP’s candidate Hemant Rasane and Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar.
