Check the World’s first Satellite phone, Thuraya X5 that will run on android

 
NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- Thuraya, an UAE-based global satellite operator, has unveiled Thuraya X5-Touch, the first satellite phone that runs on Android.

Key features of the Thuraya X5-Touch include Android 7.1 Nougat, 5.2-inch full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and a 3,800mAh battery. The company claims with this new device they are targeting customers who frequently move in and out of terrestrial coverage across a range of market sectors.

The device weighs 262 grams and comes with a retractable antenna for making satellite calls. It supports a dual SIM card functionality system with the first SIM slot dealing with 2G/3G/4G networks and the second SIM slot dealing with satellite networks. Additionally, the device comes with IP67 dust and water resistance rating along with MIL-STD-810 certification, meaning the device will be able to handle extremely rough conditions.

The company has said they will be launching X5-Touch a total of 160 markets across the globe. It is priced at EUR 999, that’s around 81,000 in Indian currency and will go on sale from December. Though, in India satellite phones are banned in India, unless they are on the Inmarsat network. Even then, permissions are required from the Department of Telecommunications.

The device comes with an 8MP primary camera on the back paired with a LED flash. On the front, it features a 2MP camera sensor to take selfies. Connectivity options include 2G, 3G, 4G, GPS, BeiDou, and GLONASS.

Thuraya X5-Touch sports a 5.2-inch full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU. The device comes with 2GB of RAM along with 16GB of internal storage. It runs Google’s Android 7.1 Nougat operating system powered by a 3,800mAh battery.
