Aftermath of 19-year-old college student’s death during Tug-of-war at sports day

MUMBAI: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- Chaos created in the college campus based in Ghatkopar in Thane district, when a 19-year-old college student collapsed on the ground during a game of tug-of-war.

The incident took place inside the campus of KJ Somaiya College of Nursing, Vidyavihar in the state of Maharashtra at around 11 am while playing tug-of-war game at annual sports day on Friday.

As soon as he collapsed, all the teachers and students got panicked and immediately rushed him to nearby Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar but it was too late by then as the doctors declared him dead.

Tilak Nagar Police after probing out on the case found out that, the deceased, Jibin Sunny was physically fit and filed a case of accidental death.

Senior police inspector, Sunil Kamble had said that, “Jibin had breakfast at home, in Thane’s Wagle Estate, before taking part in the sporting event”. He also said that the cause of death is yet to ascertain. “We have reserved his viscera for a chemical analysis”, he added.

A doctor from the Rajawadi Hospital said in this regard that, “Jibin was well-built, which may be why he had an enlarged heart. The brain injury may have been caused from the fall”.

After Jibin’s death, right from his friends, relatives, school authorities, every person who knew him is still in shock as they are unable to understand why this incident took place.

His tragic death one of Jibin’s relatives, James Paulose said, “We are waiting for relatives who live abroad to come to India. We will most likely go back Pathanamthitta, Kerala”.

Although, in the autopsy reports, doctors have found that he had an enlarged heart and also an injury near the brain’s occipital lobe or back of the head.
