Chandrayaan-2 to be launched on July 22

NPnews24 Online Pune: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that launch of India’s Moon mission Chandrayaan-2, which was called off due to a technical snag on July 15, is now rescheduled at 2.43 pm IST on Monday (July 22).

The space agency announced the date of the rescheduled launch on Twitter on Thursday.

Earlier, ISRO, in a statement, had said that ‘a technical snag was observed in the launch vehicle system at one hour before the launch. As a measure of abundant precaution, Chandrayaan-2 launch has been called off for. Revised launch date will be announced later”.  Chandrayaan-2 is India’s second lunar mission.

The 3,850 kg Chandrayaan-2 is the ambitious and dream project of ISRO and would be launched by India’s heaviest rocket GSLV-Mk-III, for a soft landing on the Moon South Pole. The launch would take place from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre from the spaceport of Sriharikota.

“ISRO is now embarking on one of the most complex missions since its inception – that of launching Chandrayaan 2,” said K Kasturirangan, former Chairman of ISRO.

Chandrayaan-2 would be carrying an Orbiter, Lander (Vikram) and Rover (Pragyan), would be injected into an earth parking 170.06 x 40,400 km orbit, from where it would commence its 54-day long, 3.844 lakh km voyage for a soft landing on the Moon South Pole on September 6.
