Central government should help farmers affected by heavy rains : Sharad Pawar

Osmanabad / Latur : Pawar on Sunday visited the flood-hit areas of Osmanabad and Latur districts. Inspected the situation at Tuljapur and Lohara talukas as well as Killari and Ashiv in Latur district. He tried to be patient while interacting with the farmers.

Due to heavy rains, crops ready to harvest have been destroyed. Soybean, tur, sugarcane and other crops have been severely damaged. “The state government will help, but the state has some limitations. Therefore, the central government should extend a helping hand,” said NCP president MP Sharad Pawar.

“We will follow up to provide help as soon as possible, but considering the extent of the damage, the state government alone will not be able to provide the help. We will meet the Prime Minister soon and discuss this,” Pawar told the farmers.

Overcame the earthquake, we’ll fight this too –
Talking to the farmers of Lohara, Umarga taluka where heavy rains have caused severe damage, Pawar said, “We are standing by recovering from the grief that thousands of people lost their lives in the 1993 earthquake in this area and we’ll recover from this too.”

Shiv Sena MLA from Umarga constituency Gyanraj Chowgule was also with Sharad Pawar.

MP Sambhaji Raje also inspected the damage caused by heavy rains in Tuljapur taluka on Sunday and demanded that the government announce a subsidy of Rs 50,000 per hectare.
