CBI claims Amol Kale as a co-conspirator in Dabholkar case

A judicial magistrate court on Thursday remanded alleged conspirator Amol Kale to CBI police custody till September 14 in connection with murder case of Dr Narendra Dabholkar.

The agency had earlier arrested shooters Sachin Andure and Sharad Kalaskar, both residents of Aurangabad.

After getting custody of Kale from Karnataka Police, he was flown to Mumbai on Thursday morning and brought to the district court in Shivajinagar here.

After hearing arguments of defence lawyer and CBI remand application, JMFC SMA Sayyed remanded Kale to police custody remand till September 14. The agency informed the court that Kale had provided the logistics support to the shooters. He is the main conspirator after Sanatan Sanstha’s Virendra Tawde who had been chargesheeted.

Dr. Narendra Dabholkar (67), rationalist and founder of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS), was shot dead on 20 August 2013, by two unidentified gunmen on a bridge near Omkareshwar temple.

On August 19, Andure was arrested by the Maharashtra ATS which handed him over to CBI. Andure is currently in magisterial custody.

“During the interrogation of accused Andure he revealed that one of the arrested accused of Gauri Lankesh case had handed over one 7.65 mm country-made pistol and three bullets to him. Andure passed them to his brother-in-law Shubham Surale in Aurangabad on August 11 this year. After Andhure was arrested, Surale passed the pistol and bullets to his friend Rohit Rajendra Rege.

Gauri Lankesh (55), journalist-turned-activist was shot dead outside her residence in Bengaluru on 5 September 2017.
