CAA constitutional or not?  SC hearing on 144 petitions today

NP News 24 : New Delhi : There will be a big hearing in the Supreme Court today amid protests across the country regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act.  More than 144 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against the support of CAA, which will be heard today.  Of these, a petition has been filed against 141 laws, 1 in support of the law and one from the Central Government.  Before the hearing, some women protested against this law outside the court.

Why there is protest against Citizenship Amendment Act? 
Jain, Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Christian and Buddhist refugees coming from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan will get citizenship of India under the Citizenship Amendment Act brought by the Central Government. Before 2014, all the refugees who came to India, if they stay in India for more than 6 years, they could get citizenship. Opposition and many organizations are opposing this issue and calling it anti-constitution. The protesters allege that the law has become anti-Muslim by linking the NRC with the CAA.

Before the hearing, some women outside the Supreme Court opposed the CAA. On Tuesday, some women arrived outside the Supreme Court carrying posters, banners.
Hearing in support and also on the petition of the Center
A petition has been filed not only against this law but also in support. A petition has been filed in the court in support of the law, while another petition is from the central government.  The central government has appealed in its petition that all the high courts of the country have filed petitions regarding this law, all of them should be brought to the Supreme Court.
Hearing on 144 petitions in Supreme Court
This has been going on ever since the Modi government introduced the Citizenship Amendment Act.  The law is being opposed by the opposition parties and the general public. At the same time, 141 petitions have been filed in the court against the law, which is to be heard. A petition has been filed in the court on behalf of Asaduddin Owaisi, Mahua Moitra, several political parties, Muslim organizations and others.
