BREAKING NEWS : Supreme Court Refuses to Ban Citizenship Law at present

NP NEWS 24 : New Delhi : A big hearing on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is going on in the Supreme Court today. The Supreme Court, after hearing the arguments, refused to ban the citizenship law for now. The Center has not yet filed an answer in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court said that without listening to the side of Center, the law cannot be banned. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the government on newly filed petitions in the CAA case. The case will be heard after weeks.

During the hearing, on behalf of senior advocate Kapil Sibal, it was said that the matter should be sent to a larger bench for hearing. He demanded that the law should be banned for months. Once citizenship is granted, it cannot be taken away. Sibal raised a demand that a date should be fixed for hearing soon in February.

The Attorney General (AG) said that 144 petitions have been filed in this case, out of which only 60 have been reported to the government. He said that we have to answer all 144 petitions. At the same time, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the court should say that no new petition will be filed now. If someone needs to say something, then the Intervention application can be filed.

Before the hearing, court number 1 was completely full. The situation was such that all three doors of the court had to be opened. There was a crowd gathering outside the door. Everyone wanted to go inside for hearing.

Today 140 petitions are listed for hearing in the SC on this law. Of these, 131 petitions have been filed against this law, while one petition is in support and one is the Central Government petition.
