Bombay HC grants transit bail to Nikita Jacob in the ‘Toolkit’ case

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted transit anticipatory bail to advocate Nikita Jacob, a suspect in a case registered by Delhi police in connection with the “toolkit” shared by climate activist Greta Thunberg over the ongoing farmers’ protest.

A single Bench of Justice P.D. Naik granted her relief after reserving the order on Tuesday.

Nikita Jacob had moved Bombay High Court for transit bail plea against the police action, after the Delhi Police issued a non-bailable warrant in connection with alleged spreading of a ‘toolkit’ related to the ongoing farmer’protest.

On Tuesday, another suspect in the case, Shantanu Muluk, an engineer based in Maharashtra’s Beed district, was also granted transit anticipatory bail for 10 days by the HC’s Aurangabad bench.

According to the Delhi police, the two along with arrested accused Disha Ravi, an activist from Bengaluru, were allegedly involved in preparing the document and were in direct touch with “pro-Khalistani elements”.

Nikita, who graduated from ILS Law College in Pune, handled only civil cases. Speaking to India Today, senior advocate Girish Godbole, under whose chamber Nikita last worked, said the development came as a surprise. “Nikita worked as my junior for about 3 years. She was good at her work. But, we never imagined that she would face a criminal case someday,” Godbole said.
