Bengaluru: Crorepati’s son kills a 65-year-old man to pay off Rs 30,0000 debt

A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing a 65-year-old man in Bengaluru to pay off Rs 30,000 he owed to his friends. Rakesh who addressed the victim as grandfather, stole his ornaments with the aim to sell them off for clearing his debt. The incident happened in Devanahalli town of Bengaluru district (rural) in Karnataka.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Rakesh, is a resident of Parasannhalli Road, while the victim, identified as Nagaraja Murthy, used to live near Tipu Birthplace Road. They knew each other as Murthy often visited his brother, who is Rakesh’s neighbor. Rakesh comes from a well-to-do family. His father owns property worth over Rs 7 crore in the area.

Rakesh was under pressure to pay the money to his friends. He planned to steal the gold ornaments worn by the victim in order to pay off his debt. On January 15, when Murthy was on his way back home from Silicon Layout, Rakesh allegedly assaulted him with a cricket bat from behind. He then stabbed him in the neck, leading to serious injuries that resulted in his death. Thereafter, he dumped the body in the nearby bushes and fled with the gold ornaments.

When the victim did not return home, his family members began searching for him. Rakesh also joined them in order to avoid suspicion. After failing to trace the victim, his family members lodged a police complaint. Subsequently, the Police arrested Rakesh with the help of the CCTV footage and recovered the gold ornaments from him.
