Bengal polls: Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty likely to join BJP on March 7

KOLKATA: According to sources, Mithun Chakraborty is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 7 ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

The BJP, which is desperately seeking to dislodge West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the government, has lately embraced many defectors from the ruling Trinamool Congress. Many believe that Mithun, a veteran actor and popular icon for Bengalis, joining the BJP will significantly boost the electoral chances of the Hindutva party.

If Chakraborty joins BJP then it’ll be one of the biggest optical victory for BJP in Bengal. He can be used to blitzkrieg rural Bengal.

Earlier, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat visited actor Mithun Chakraborty at his Mumbai residence on February 16, speculating Chakraborty’s entry into BJP. Earlier in 2019, Mithun Chakroborty had paid ‘courtesy visit’ to the RSS Chief at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur and then visited the Hedgewar memorial.

Chakraborty, however, denied reports of him joining politics again. “I have a spiritual connection with Mohan Bhagwat. I had met him in Lucknow and later I had requested him to come to my home when he is in Mumbai,” he said.

Chakraborty joined politics in 2014 after he was nominated for the Rajya Sabha by the Trinamool Congress. He resigned from the House in December 2016.
