Baramati : Two-month baby along with 26 people rescued after 48 hours

Baramati: For the past 48 hours, Pune has been witnessing torrential rain, which has created flood-like situations in rural areas of Pune. The Nira and Karha rivers, located in the Baramati area of the city, have submerged their bordering villages in water, leaving people stranded in their homes. The most affected area was Sonagaon, which is a meeting point of Nira and Karha river. The members of Sonwalkar family were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team on Friday morning, including a two-month-old baby girl.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams The NDRF team received information that due to floods in Songaon, the main road has been blocked and contact has been broken for the last 48 hours and water has entered into almost all the houses here. NDRF teams are continuously rescuing people from the affected areas, approximately three thousand people are said to be rescued from different parts so far.

An NDRF official said that the family was locked in a room hungry and thirsty for the last 48 hours. Further delay would have affected the child’s health. NDRF has safely evacuated 26 people from this village.

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar’s daughter and MP Supriya Sule is visiting the flood-hit areas of Pune today. Along with Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited flood affected areas in Baramati on Thursday evening. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains for Pune city till Saturday, 17 October. People have been asked to move out of their homes only if necessary.
