Auto-Drivers in Pune Pledged to Become Organ Donors Digitally

On the occasion of World Organ Donation Day, autorickshaw drivers in Pune have pledged to become organ donors by signing up the organ donation forms digitally.

The main objective of this initiative is to create awareness about organ donation amongst passengers and help citizens join this noble cause of saving numerous precious lives. In view of this social cause, “all the auto drivers will be promoting themselves as ‘Rickshachalak Avayavdata’ meaning Rickshaw Driver Organ Donor.” as stated by Baba Adhav, president of Angmehnati Kashtkari Panchayat, Riksha Panchayat, Hamaal Panchayat and Pathari Panchayat in Pune.

The organ donation activity took place at Ricksha Pachayat office, Lakud Bazaar, was inaugurated by Baba Adhav. The attendees included Rickshaw Panchayat Cooperative Society’s vice-president Ravsaheb Kadam, Shri. Mukund Kakade, Anuradha Potdar, Pravin Surwade, Noble Abraham from NCORD Health Card LLP, Ricksha Panchayat Sanstha’s director, Raghunath Shinde, Karim Sayyed, Waghmare, Nandu Velankar, Aanand belamkar, Sopan Ghogare and Siddharth Chavan.

All the participating auto drivers downloaded eHealthApp on their smartphones to fill the organ donation form and submit online with the help of NCORD coordinators. The auto-drivers went a step ahead by applying a sticker depicting ‘Avayadata’ inside their rickshaws.

The organ donation awareness drive initiated by NCORD in association with Riksha Panchayat started on 9^th August and will be continued till 19^th August, 2018. All the members of Riksha Panchayat will be participating in the event during this period. Almost 5000 members associated with this group will work as ‘Organ Donation Ambassadors’.

The auto-drivers will themselves talk to passengers about the importance of organ donation and share the printed leaflets and organ donation forms to all the passengers. NCORD will be providing free access to eHealthApp to all the auto drivers participating in this noble cause.
