Arogya Vari (Health Pilgrimage) | Lifesaving Intensive Care Units Introduced for Pandhari Pilgrims

Pune : Arogya Vari (Health Pilgrimage) | This year, the Arogya Vari (Health Pilgrimage) proved to be a lifesaver for ten pilgrims who suffered heart attacks during their journey to Pandhari. Thanks to the introduction of state-of-the-art intensive care units (ICUs) at each palanquin’s berth, these patients received timely and effective treatment, ultimately saving their lives.

The public health department of the state played an active role in this year’s Vari. In previous years, the Health Department Pilgrimage focused on activities such as distributing medicines, raising public awareness about various diseases, and providing healthcare services during the pilgrimage.

However, for the first time this year, ICUs were made available at the resting places of the palanquins, including those of Saint Shrestha Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj. This initiative involved the deployment of expert doctors, trained nurses, modern medical equipment, and essential medications. As a result, critically ill patients could receive prompt medical attention for a range of conditions.

Dr. Radhakishan Pawar, Deputy Director of the Pune Division of the State Public Health Department, stated, “By providing up-to-date treatment facilities on the Palkhi Marg and in Pandharpur, we were able to treat around three thousand patients during the Vari. Among them were ten heart patients who were accurately diagnosed and received effective treatment within the crucial first hour, ultimately saving their lives. We also set up patient treatment facilities in Gopalpur, Tin Rasta, and Wakhri in Pandharpur, where approximately 950 patients were admitted and treated.”

The range of medical services available in Pandharpur was extensive, encompassing specialties such as ENT, ophthalmology, gynecology, obstetrics, dentistry, dermatology, physiotherapy, cardiology, and surgery. Bike ambulances and 108 Emergency Medical Services were also readily available to provide immediate assistance. The utmost care was taken to ensure that every pilgrim participating in the procession had access to essential healthcare services.

The statistics speak volumes about the impact of these healthcare initiatives. Over the course of the pilgrimage, thousands of pilgrims received medical attention for various ailments, including fever, cold and cough, diarrhea, dog bites, respiratory disorders, road accidents, heart diseases, and snake bites.
