….And in Drunk State, When Dharmendra Had Rushed to Chennai to Stop the Marriage of Hema Malini and Jitendra !!

Mumbai : Dreamgirl Hemamalini, the one-time and still-star of Hindi cinema, and Dharmendra, the superstar who is known as He-man, are just as popular today. The two have given a lot of superhit movies together.

Dharmendra was in love with Hema. And he wanted to marry her. Hemamalini was also attracted to Dharmendra. But since he was married, she could not decide.

Even her family did not like her meeting Dharmendra. They were always trying to keep her away from him. Hema’s mother Jaya Chakraborty used to always be with her during the shooting. So that Dharmendra does not get close to her.

Her parents tried hard to prevent her from marrying Dharmendra, and saw her many boys for marriage. One of them is Jitendra.

Today, Hema Malini is over 70 years old, and Jitendra is 78 years old. Everyone knows the love story of Dharmendra and Hema Malini.

But very few know that Hema Malini and Jitendra were going to get married. Today, Jitendra is happily married to his girlfriend Shobha Sippy. More than 40 years have passed since their marriage.

As Jitendra turns 78 today, this is an attempt to bring back memories of an event that very few people in his life knew about.

As Hema Malini wrote in her autobiography “Beyond Dreamgirl”, her mother, Jaya Chakraborty, did not like her and Dharmendra’s love affair.

Because Dharmendra was already married and he was also the father of three children. The only way to keep her away from Dharmendra was to get her married to someone else.

For that, Jaya Chakraborty thought Jitendra was the perfect son-in-law.

Although Jitendra had a special feeling for Hema Malini, Hema Malini did not love him. She considered him a good close friend and they were only good friends.

But Dharmendra did not like the friendship between the two. Because Dharmendra loved Hemamalini. He didn’t like the closeness of the two of them, so he once came on the set where the shoot of their movie was going on.

Hema’s mother persuaded her to visit Jitendra’s parents and family once. Jitendra’s family was very happy to get him married to Hema Malini. Hema was also ready for this marriage for the happiness of her mother. Because her mother had a lot of influence on Hema’s life.

Hema and Jitendra’s family all reached Chennai for this instant wedding. The news of this marriage was kept secret. But the media got the link of it, and a newspaper published the story on the front page of the next day’s issue.

After reading the news, Dharmendra’s temper flared, he reported the news to Jitendra’s girlfriend Shobha Sippy, and they both immediately flew to Chennai to stop their marriage.

When Dharmendra reached Hema’s house after landing in Chennai, her father became angry with her. He warned her to stay away from him as he was already married and had three children.

But without listening to them, Dharmendra, who was a little drunk, was stopped to meet Hema. ‘Let me talk to her alone,’ he kept saying over and over and refused to go back and just sat there.

Eventually he was allowed to meet Hema in private and everyone else sat outside.

In Hema’s autobiography, “Beyond Dreamgirl”, she writes about those moments, when they met in private, they both became emotional. Dharmendra was begging her not to get married.

He was very upset and very sad. The same situation was of Shobha sitting outside. When Jitendra told her of his decision to marry Hema, Shobha also got angry.

In short, the situation on both sides was emotional and complicated. Hema was confused when she came out of the room. She came out and requested that the marriage decision be postponed for a few days. But Jitendra and his family were angry when they heard her decision. They told her to decide immediately.

As written later in the book, when Hema was asked to make this decision, she shook her head in denial. Seeing this, Jitendra became very angry and took his family and left immediately.

Jitendra later married Shobha Sippy on October 18, 1974. They had two children. Producer Ekta Kapoor and actor Tusshar Kapoor.

But it took many years for Dharmendra and Hema to get married. The couple’s marriage was not approved by Hema’s family. Hema’s mother Jaya Chakraborty continued to look for other suitable boys for Hema.

Hema’s parents did not want their daughter to marry a Punjabi man who was married and had three children and was much older than her.

But for some reason Hema kept avoiding her marriage. She was not ready to go against her parents. She could not make a firm decision.

Many years later, on August 21, 1979, Dharmendra and Hema got married. They have two daughters, Isha and Ahana.
