Amphan is the Another ‘Super Cyclone’ in India After 21 Years, Army on Alert, Also Preparing for Airlift

Kolkata : The country is still struggling with the coronavirus and in the meantime, the danger of Amphan cyclone is also looming. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for West Bengal and North Odisha, Yellow alert has been issued in 13 districts of Kerala. Yellow alert means that people and officials have to be vigilant, as there is a possibility of heavy rains in the state. In such a situation, the storm of Amphan can increase the difficulties for the country.

11 lakh people being evacuated in Odisha

Cyclone Amphan took a very severe form on Monday and due to this, now the coastal areas of Odisha can receive heavy rains with strong winds. After this warning, the state government has started preparing to evacuate 11 lakh people from these areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called a high-level meeting about it at four on Monday evening. About 195 km at an hourly speed, the Amphan storm will hit the coast of West Bengal on the evening of 20 May.

Railways canceled special train operation on Bhubaneswar-Kharagpur route –
Railways have canceled the operation of the special train on the Bhubaneswar-Kharagpur route due to the ‘Amphan’. The East Coast Railway on Monday decided to cancel the operation of special trains plying on this route. These trains will be postponed till further orders.

In 1999, super cyclone came in Odisha. Since that time, now this second supercyclone is coming. This new cyclone is the same type. The storm of Amphan will reach the coast of West Bengal in the evening of 20 May.

Army on Alert

A fair number of NDRF teams have been deployed in Odisha and West Bengal. Right now we are engaged in spreading awareness among people. 13 teams of NDRF have been deployed in Odisha and 17 teams in West Bengal. In the review meeting taken by the PM, it has been decided that NDRF teams will also be deployed to airlift people.
