Ajit Pawar questions Indian celebrities, asks “Why didn’t Indian celebs remember the farmers in the last 2 and half months?”

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar while interacting with the media took a dig at Indian celebrities for expressing their views on the on-going farmers’ protests. He stated, “Farmers’ have been sitting at the border of the capital for the last two-three months. Why didn’t the celebrities remember at that time?”.
Pawar expressed that after the global celebrities tweeted in support of the farmers protest, the micro-blogging site was divided in two groups. One who expressed that “it is our internal matter and external factors should not influence the movement” and others who tweeted in support of the farmers.
A series of tweets by Indian celebs started flooding twitter after Pop star Rihanna and environmental activist Greta Thunberg tweeted in support of the farmers’ agitation.
“Everyone has the right to express their opinion. Now you wake up only when global celebrities express their opinion? When there is humatarian crisis, one tweets about it. These global celebs did the same. But the farmers’ have been protesting in the cold for almost 3 months now, where were our Indian celebrities then?”, Pawar added.
Many celebrities, including Rihanna, Greta, Meena Harris, the nephew of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, expressed support for the farmers’ movement.
A US State Department spokesperson on Thursday said, “We recognise that peaceful protests are a hallmark of any thriving democracy, and note that the Indian Supreme Court has stated the same. We encourage that any differences between the parties be resolved through dialogue”.
The International Monetary Fund(IMF) earlier said India’s farm bills have the “potential to represent a significant step forward for agricultural reforms” in the country. “We believe the farm bills do have the potential to represent a significant step forward for agricultural reforms in India,” Gerry Rice, Director of Communications at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said.
