Ahmedabad: Intern doctors demand stipend hike, to go on strike today

Ahmedabad: Intern doctors across the state will go on strike from today demanding increase in stipend, incentives for COVID duty.

All the intern doctors have been demanding to be considered bond free after completing the internship by calculating the period of duty performed from April to date as 1:1 in the bond period.
At present MBBS intern doctors are given a stipend of Rs 12800, which has been increased to Rs 20,000. Also, the increase in this stipend will be accepted from April 2020 and the remaining amount will be paid in arrears.

There is a demand against the government for intern doctors to be given an honorarium of at least Rs 1,000 per day as part of their duty at COVID center. Intern doctors of all governments, GMERS as well as municipal corporation-run medical colleges have made representations to the government as well as officials several times.

Over the last few days, the intern doctors have made their representations in person as well as in writing to officials including Deputy CM Nitin Patel, Health Secretary, Health Commissioner, Dean.

Intern doctors will go on strike from today. Intern doctors have alleged that the Gujarat government is paying doctors less than other states during the corona period. The intern doctors demand that we should get proper compensation while they are continuously performing the service. Intern doctors have made frequent representations about this. At the same time, they have expressed outrage on social media.
