AFMC Pune conducts national medicine update-2018

 

Pune: NPNews24 Online – The Department of Internal Medicine, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune organized its Biennial Conference, National Medicine Update: NMUD 2018, on 13 and 14 Oct 2018. Deliberations at this two day Conference centered around the theme “ Clinical Implications of Recent Advances in Medicine”. Eminent personalities from the field of Medicine and Clinical Research who participated included Dr RA mashelkarfrs, Dr K Govind Babu, Dr Vineet Ahuja, Dr Rajendra R Joshi, Dr Yogesh Shouche, Dr Anuradha Choughule, Dr AG Unnikrishnanand Dr Satish Jeevannavar.

Medicine and Clinical Research is progressing rapidly and Updates are a way of keeping abreast with new developments and disseminating information to faculty and students alike. In this endeavor, the Department of Internal Medicine, headed By Air Commodore Shankar Subramanian was ably supported by Physicians from AFMC, Command Hospital Southern Command, other Command Hospitals and peripheral hospitals who participated actively in the proceedings.

The Update was inaugurated by Lt Gen UK Sharma. Maj Gen Madhuri Kanitkar AVSM VSM,officiatingcommandant, AFMC,welcomed the Faculty , delegates and speakers and praised the Scientific Spirit of the participants. The inaugural  key note address by Dr RA Mashelkar on ‘Inspiring next practice innovation ecosystem in healthcare’ set the tone for successive  speakers. The subsequent lectures covered nuances of  Genomics in Medical Practice, Human Gut Microbiome, Ageing and Regeneration, Artificial Intelligence and Technology, Advances in Oncology,  Digital Diabetology and Clinical Decision Making.

Another highlight of the proceedings was the conduct of Col Ajit Kashyap Post Graduate Quiz where active participation was seen from colleges in and around Pune as well as Mumbai.

The quality of scientific deliberations and active participation was lauded by the higher echelons of the Army Medical Corps with the hope that lessons imbibed would be put to good use in clinical practice for the benefit of patients .
