Abhishek Banerjee files defamation case against Amit Shah

New Delhi : The political battle going on before the elections in West Bengal is now turning into a legal dispute. Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of the state’s CM Mamta Banerjee, has filed a defamation case against Home Minister Amit Shah. Hearing this case, the Special Court of MP-MLA has ordered Amit Shah to appear in the court on 22 February. However Amit Shah is exempted from personal appearance. He can also present his case through his lawyer.

Abhishek Banerjee’s lawyer Sanjay Basu said, “The special court has ordered Amit Shah to appear personally or through his lawyer at 10 pm on February 22. The case is about allegations made by Amit Shah on Abhishek Banerjee during a rally in 2018.” On 11 August 2018, during the BJP’s Yuva Swabhiman Rally, Amit Shah accused Mamata Banerjee’s nephew of corruption.

In the defamation case filed by Abhishek Banerjee, Amit Shah has been accused of tarnishing his image by accusing him of corruption. Amit Shah had said, ‘Narada, Sharda, Rose Valley, Syndicate Corruption, Nephew Corruption. Mamata Banerjee has continuously committed corruption.’ Amit Shah said this while addressing a rally in Kolkata.

Before the elections in West Bengal, political movement has intensified. Amit Shah and Mamta Banerjee had rallies on Thursday. Apart from this, Amit Shah is still in West Bengal. Mamta Banerjee had attacked Amit Shah at a rally and said that before attacking me, Amit Shah can compete with my nephew Abhishek if he wants. If he has the courage then he should show it by contesting against Abhishek Banerjee.’ The verbal war between Mamata Banerjee and BJP leaders may intensify in the coming days. PM Narendra Modi is also reaching West Bengal on 25 February.
