6,000 Plus COVID-19 Cases in a Day, Govt. Said – ‘Lockdown Saved Millions of People From Infection’

New Delhi : With more than 6,000 cases of coronavirus infection occurring in a single day for the first time in the country, the number of people infected so far reached around 1.24 lakh.

As of on Saturday morning, 142 more people died due to infection in the country. The death toll has risen to 3,726 while the total number of infected people has increased to 1,24,794 after 6,570 new cases of infection have been reported. 69,237 infected people are under treatment in the country, 51,824 infected people have now recovered and one patient has gone abroad.

At the same time, the government says that to prevent the spread of virus infection, the lockdown implemented in the country since 25 March has been very effective and if it had not been done, the number of people infected so far would have reached 30 lakhs. However, the RBI said that the impact of the damage caused to the economy due to the COVID-19 epidemic in the early days has been much broader and more serious than it was estimated.

Significantly, since the first case of COVID-19 in China in December, 51.3 lakh people worldwide have been infected with this deadly virus while around 3.3 lakh people have died due to infection. Citing various studies and research, government officials also say that the lockdown has been implemented as a “timely, phased manner, proactive and public health measures by assessing the situation beforehand” to eradicate the COVID-19 epidemic. Had it not been done, around 2.1 lakh people in India would have died from Coronavirus infection.
