18.9 million salaried Indians lost their Jobs since lockdown

Delhi: The debate over unemployment rate has always been at par but during lockdown it has boosted viciously. As per report by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, 5 million salaried people lost their job in July. The number sums up to 18.9 million since lockdown. The pandemic has played a crucial role behind employment loss. It has hit hard especially salaried people.
Think tank’s data depicts 17.7 million salaried jobs were lost in April, later 0.1 million jobs were lost in May. However, 3.9 million jobs were gained in June but in July 5 million jobs were lost .
The data also shows job losses in the manufacturing sector were the worst hit, especially the textiles. In the textile sector the wage bill fell by 29%. Likewise, in the weather industry it recorded over 22% fall in its wage bill in the June quarter.
