Survivors of Mutha Canal break-down haven’t received compensation

PUNE: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- It’s been more than months since the Mutha Canal broke-down near Dandekar bridge led to flooding affecting 759 houses were washed away at the Janata Vasahat slum.

The state government and the PMC had assured the affected people families for rehabilitation as well as financial assistance. PMC has sanctioned 11,000 of financial assistance to majorly affected family and 5,000 for partially affected people. According to the records, 90 families were severely affected while 669 were partially affected then.

However, the affected people have claimed that they are still waiting for the financial assistance.

Now, the state government had decided to provide 50,000 to each family and has sanctioned 3 crores for the purpose. Though, there has been increased in the number of families affected, the district administration on behalf the state government has decided to provide financial aid on the basis of assessment of ‘property loss.’

Most of the affected people have not received any compensation nor all affected people had been rehabilitated.

A private company employee, who escaped the flood situation said, “Very few people have received compensation and that too a meagre amount, while most of us have not got any yet. Nobody from the PMC has even cared to visit us here. My wife escaped the flood with my two-year-old son on her head. We lost everything in our home, except for the clothes that we were wearing. How are we supposed to rebuild our lives with such a small amount of compensation?”

BJP corporator, Dheeraj Ghate said, “There are families who have received the amount and some will get soon. The district administration has conveyed that they are calculating the financial assistance on the extent of damage to the property and would soon transfer the money to the bank account of all the affected people.”
