State appeal to report witchcraft at the police station

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Anti Witchcraft Law | The State Social Welfare Department has appealed to citizens to report to the police if any incident of human sacrifice, other inhuman evils, aghor practices and witchcraft occur or are noticed. (Anti Witchcraft Law)

 

To prevent human sacrifice and other inhumane and evil practices and witchcraft and to eradicate them, awareness is being spread by the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance through the Maharashtra Anti-Witchcraft Law 2013. Beating a person by tying them with a rope or chain, beating them with a stick or whip, forcing them to drink foot-soaked water, giving them pepper spray, hanging them from the ceiling, tying them with a rope or hair or pulling out their hair, hitting the person with hot objects under the pretext of exorcism causing injury, forcing open sexual intercourse, inhumane treatment of a person, forcing urine or faeces into a person’s mouth or similar acts are offenses mentioned under Section 2 (1) (b) from 1 to 12 of the Act.

 

It also includes advertising, distributing or publishing materials, articles or books, directly or indirectly aiding, abetting, participating or abetting the commission of an offence. It has been provided that a person guilty of such an offence shall be liable to imprisonment for 6 months and a fine of Rs 5,000 or up to 7 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 upon conviction and the punishable offence shall be cognizable and non-bailable.

 

Inspectors of police stations have been appointed as vigilance officers in each taluka and they have the right to file a complaint, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Sangeeta Dawkhar.
