Soon, new parking lot near Pune airport

NPnews24 online, Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has shown the willingness of acquiring six acres of private land to build a parking lot near the Lohegaon Airport to ease the suffering of the citizens due to the confusion and congestion at the airport parking area.  A meeting regarding the same was held recently.
Ola and Uber stands have been erected outside the airport premises for passengers leaving the airport. Hence, they have to walk some distance with their bags.when it rains, the passengers get soaked in rain and even their luggage. The charges for waiting more than 3 minutes at the airport is a lot. And passengers are facing a lot of problems due to the parking.
Due to the complaints of the citizens, Deputy Mayor Dr Siddharth Dhende met Airport Director Ajay Kumar and requested for a change in the parking system. On this, Ajay Kumar said it was an order of by the Airport Authority of India (AAI). He said there was a need for ample parking space to change this situation.
There is a private six acre land about 100 metre from the airport. It is in restricted area hence, no construction work can be done there. “Therefore, the civic body should clear the site and make it available for parking,” Ajay Kumar suggested.
Dr Dhende took the initiative and jointly held a meeting with the land owner, municipal commissioner and the airport director. The commissioner indicated that he was prepared to provide cash or TDR in lieu of space.m, while the land owner can develop a parking lot and give it to the civic body.
“Both these proposals will be decided in the next eight days,” said Dr Dhende.
