Pune : Shinde Fadnavis Govt | As the BJP-Shiv Sena Shinde coalition government completes one year in power, the citizens of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are reflecting on what has been accomplished in the past year. Unfortunately, both cities have experienced a drought of announcements and a drought of implementation, leaving many residents dissatisfied with the progress made by the government.

Several contentious decisions and issues have plagued Pune during this year. The exclusion of Uruli Devachi and Fursungi villages from the Pune Municipal Corporation for political reasons, and the controversial Balbharati-Poud Fata road and Mula-Mutha river bank conservation and beautification scheme have faced opposition but were still pushed forward. Additionally, the circular route, the stalled work on the new airport, and the delayed start of passenger service on the metro have raised concerns about the government’s effectiveness.

Despite the visits of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to Pune, it has become evident that these visits are primarily for political gain. While BJP has five MLAs in the city and there are two MLAs from NCP and one from Congress, the development of Pune has not gained significant momentum over the past year. Promised works worth Rs 2000 crore for Pune, including funds for the Katraj-Kondhwa road, have not been received by the Municipal Corporation, resulting in stalled land acquisition and increased traffic congestion.

Moreover, controversial decisions have been made despite opposition from citizens. Projects such as the Balbharti Poud Phata road, which is opposed due to environmental concerns, and the Mula-Mutha river conservation scheme, which entails the felling of six thousand trees, have been implemented, disregarding the protests of environmentalists and organizations. Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil has also not been actively involved in regular meetings regarding city development. Meanwhile, crime rates have risen, and concrete solutions to address the city’s traffic congestion have not been put forward.

As the city grapples with pending decisions and a lack of progress, various political figures have voiced their concerns. Chetan Tupe, MLA of the Nationalist Congress from Hadapsar, emphasizes the increase in crime and the lack of attention given to the issue. Mohan Joshi, Vice President of Pradesh Congress, highlights the stalled passenger service of the Metro and the absence of concrete measures to address traffic congestion. Siddharth Shirole, BJP MLA from Shivajinagar, points to the completion of some projects, including the Metro work and Shivajinagar bus stand, as examples of achievements during the government’s tenure.
