Shekhar Kapur appointed as new President of FTII

The Information & Broadcasting ministry nominated Shekhar Kapur as the new President of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and Chairman of FTII Governing Council. His tenure will be till 3 March 2023. Shekhar Kapur succeeds veteran actor CID fame Brijendra Pal Singh who is nominated to General Assembly of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

According to reports, Director Shekhar Kapur has been appointed as the new President of FTII Society and Chairman of FTII Governing Council.

Shekhar Kapur, gained international recognition with the 1994 Bollywood film Bandit Queen, based on Mala Sen’s biography of infamous Indian bandit and politician Phoolan Devi, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and Filmfare Critics Awards for Best Movie and Best Direction for that year. It was premiered in the Directors Fortnight section of the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
