Schools and colleges to be shut on Monday 

NPnews24 Online Pune: After heavy and continuous rainfall in Pune district, Pune District Collector Naval Kishare Ram announced that all schools and colleges in the district will remain shut on Monday (August 5).

The  collector has declared a holiday as many parts of the city have flooded due to rainwater. The decision was announced to ensure the safety of students in the district. The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has also declared a holiday.

“It has been predicted that there will be heavy and continuous rainfall in the city and it might get severe. To avoid any accidents and to ensure the students’ safety, we have declared a holiday for children in the district on Monday,” the statement by the district collector said.

The collector also said that heavy rainfall has created flood-like situation in low-lying area in the district, along with Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. It is better that the students stay inside their homes so that they are safe.

The SPPU has also declared holiday in its campus as well as affiliated colleges in Ahmednagar and Nashik. All the colleges will be closed on Monday. The IMD has also issued warning for Mumbai and Western Maharashtra to brace for heavy rains.
