SC to hear plea filed by State government on deletion of 18 villages from KDMC

Kalyan: The state government and the municipality have filed a special petition in the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision to re-incorporate 18 villages near Dombivali into the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation. The petition will be heard on January 22. The hearing is set to take place before three Supreme Court Justices’.

A three-bench judge headed by Justice V. Ramasubramanian will hear the plea. In December, the High Court had quashed the state government’s decision to set up independent suburban municipal councils of 18 villages and ordered re-inclusion of these villages in the Kalyan-Dombivali municipal area.

The state government and the municipality had filed a special petition in the Supreme Court. Both the petitions are being heard today. In this hearing, the municipality as well as the government is likely to demand the same as on the decision of the High Court. If that happens, it will have a direct impact on the general elections of the municipality.

Samrat Shinde will represent Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation and Sachin Patil will represent the state government. The Bombay High court had earlier quashed and set aside the Maharashtra governement’s decision to exclude 18 villages from Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) limits and form a separate civic council.
