Pune: US returned software professional arrested for defaming woman online

Pune: An US-returned software professional has been arrested on charges of defaming a 27-year-old woman through social media platforms.

The woman is an architect by profession and a resident of Katraj. She has filed the complaint against the 30-year-old software engineer on Tuesday after which he was arrested.

According to police, the suspect had uploaded defamatory messages on various social media platforms about the woman. They two were in relationship which had turned sour after a breakup of their engagement.

The woman has alleged in her complaint that she was being harassed by some person online. The woman had stated that defamatory messages about her were posted on social media platforms. The suspect had used fake names and accounts to post this objectionable content. The suspect had also tagged the woman’s friends and relatives in these objectionable posts.

After receiving the complaint, police traced the IP address of the computer from where the messages were being posted. He was arrested and later released on bail in the evening.

Investigations revealed that the suspect was working with a US-based company and had recently returned to Pune, India. Thereafter he got engaged with the woman but they parted ways due to some issues.
