Pune: Three arrested for allegedly cheating a hotelier of Rs 25 lakh on pretext of returning double amount

Pune : Three persons were arrested for allegedly duping a hotelier of Rs 25 lakh by luring the man to give a double amount, the police said on Tuesday. Reportedly, the accused cheated on the man by giving him duplicate currency in return. Search for other two accused is on, the officials said.

The arrested were identified as Praveen Prakash (30), resident of Kalewadi, Malesh Suresh Gawde (42) and Venkataraman Vasantrao Bahekar (40), resident of Karve nagar. A 36-year-old man from Shivne area has lodged a complaint in this regard. A case has been registered at Faraskhana police station. The incident took place at Kumbhar Wada on February 23, 2021.

According to the police, the plaintiff lives in Shivane and has a hotel in Donje. One of the accused approached the plaintiff asking him to give Rs 25 lakh in Rs 2000 notes. While in return the accused lured and promised to give him Rs 50 lakh in the form of Rs 500 denomination. The plaintiff gave them Rs 25 lakh. Meanwhile, the accused duped the man and gave him duplicate paper currency in return.

The two absconding accused are on a run with the plaintiff’s money and search is on to find them, the officials said. Police Sub-inspector Abhijit Patil is conducting further investigation into the case.
