Pune : Swargate Jedhe chowk underpass to remain close for vehicular traffic for 40 days

Pune: The Swargate underpass for vehicles heading towards Sarasbaug from Shankarsheth road will remain closed for 40 days after Diwali. The Pune Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to concretize the grade separator road and that work will be starting soon after Diwali.

The grade separator, which helps motorists to avoid the crowded Jedhe chowk and head towards Sarasbaug from Shankarsheth road, is riddled with potholes all time during the year. This grade separator was built by the MSRDC seven years before. A meeting between the MSRDC and PMC officials took place on October 23.

PMC Executive Engineer I N Randive, Deputy Engineer M M Thopte, MSRDC Executive Engineer D D Baravkar, Deputy Engineer D D Karjekar, Consultant Udya Khairatkar and the construction company officials participated in this meeting. It was decided in the meeting that the present tar road should be replaced by a concrete road. Also the PMC officials agreed to replace the leaking storm water drain pipelines.

The work will be started soon after Diwali. A traffic diversion plan is being prepared in coordination with the Pune City Traffic Police officials. The MSRDC is responsible for the maintenance of this grade separator and hence they will undertake the work through their contractors. Since the entire work is being done within the warranty period, the contractor will bear all expenses.
