Pune: Suspended cop Dattatreya Madane alleges delay in extortion case investigation

Pune: Assistant Police Inspector Dattatreya Madane, who is suspended from the department service in connection with a sexual offence case, has alleged that investigations into the extortion case filed against the same woman is being delayed for some reasons. Madane has also alleged that Rahul Vetal, a constable currently working at the Yerawada traffic branch is also involved in the extortion case.

The suspects named in the extortion case have been identified as Sonali Sonawane of Loni Kalbhor, Sachin Chavan of Hadapsar, Rahul Vetal and Ratnamala Vetal of Kadamwak Vasti, Vikas Ishwar Tupe of Hadapsar, Malan Pawar from Loni Kalbhor and Pappu alias Sandeep Shinde of Hadapsar.

Sonali Sonawane had in 2013 come to the Phursungi police station to lodge a complaint against her husband. She met the then Police Sub-Inspector Dattatraya Madane who was posted there. As the acquaintance grew, Dattatraya Madane’s relative and Sonali started a clothing store together. Later, for some reason, the differences arised between them. Meanwhile, Madane was promoted as Assistant Police Inspector and was posted at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

Sonali allegedly called Madane one day and threatened to file a rape case. She reportedly demanded Rs 50 lakh in cash within two days and warned Madane of consequences if he doesn’t pay the amount. Madane has alleged that the other suspects were helping and instigating Sonali for filing a false case against him.

Madane was immediately suspended after the case against him was registered. However, within two days, Sonali filed an affidavit alleging misunderstanding about Dattatraya Madane. Meanwhile, Madane had sought redressal from the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal.

Jagannath Kalaskar, Senior Police Inspector of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station said, “The case has been pending for a long time. The accused in the case are seeking bail through the court. I have recently taken charge of the police station and I am personally looking into the matter.”
